… is a time of waiting and preparation ahead of the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas and the return of Jesus at the Second Coming.
We began the first week of Advent with a class prayer service led by Isla, Simeon and Bridget in which we were reminded about the importance of and meaning behind the Season of Advent.
We then created our class wreath for our prayer focus as we remembered the significance of the symbolic Advent wreath.
Throughout this season of Advent, Year 6 have been given the mission of being a Secret Saint to another member of our class. Each day, they will have special acts of kindness to carry out. This is to help us take daily moments to pause the hustle and bustle of everyday school life and prepare our hearts and minds for the second coming of Jesus.
We have also spent some time with our prayer friends, using scripture to explain to them all about the theme of the first week of Advent: HOPE.
As always, they listened and participated in the shared prayer service beautifully!
We have lots of other lovely things planned this Advent too, including:
- singing Christmas carols at the Maudslay on Monday 9th December (friends and families very welcome!)
- taking part in a ‘Rewind to Christmas’ workshop at Queen’s Road Baptist Church on Wednesday 11th December
- watching the Early Years and Key Stage 1’s Nativity to remind us of the true meaning of Christmas
- singing at our annual Christmas Carol Concert at All Souls’ Church on Wednesday 18th December
