A wonderful week in Year One

An exhausting but exciting week in Year One this week! We started by continuing our work on measure. We began looking at weigh and mass and comparing these different weights. We were shocked to find out that sometimes just because the quantity of an object is more doesn’t mean that it weighs more.

It was Shrove Tuesday this week and to celebrate we had pancakes with an array of different toppings. Despite being disturbed by the fire alarm (Thanks to Mrs Jilks) the children enjoyed the pancakes and began to talk about what we were going to go without during Lent.

On Wednesday we had our Ash Wednesday mass and the children were fantastic! It was a bit longer than our normal mass but we got ashes placed on our head. We had a very special prayer service where we locked away the special word and decided who our special intentions would be during Lent.

We celebrated World Book Day on Thursday and the children all looked wonderful in their costumes. The children had the chance to go and share a book with different teachers and mixed classes where they completed different tasks. The children also completed a huge collaborative colouring project for WBD that we are hoping to put display once we’ve found the right space for it.

Today we spent the morning making cakes using the skills we had learnt in maths this week. The children had different ingredients in bags and they had to weigh the correct amount that the ingredients told them. The children were great and could even use a measuring jug to get to 450ml. We had our fingers crossed that we had got the measurements right so we could eat the yummy cakes in the afternoon.

A great week! If any outstanding Mummy and me pictures could be in by next Friday that would be great.
Have a lovely weekend!
